St. Joseph Fraternity

St. Joseph Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order, located in Charlton, Massachusetts, is a welcoming community of Catholic men and women who seek to follow Christ in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. Rooted in the Gospel, nourished by the Eucharist, and centered on the Cross of Christ, we strive to live out our faith in everyday life through prayer, fraternity, and joyful service.

As Secular Franciscans, we embrace a way of life marked by simplicity, humility, peace, and care for others—bringing the Gospel into the world around us. The Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) is a vocation within the Catholic Church for men and women—married or single—who are called to live the Gospel in the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi in the midst of everyday life. Rooted in Francis’ radical love for Christ, especially in the poor and suffering, Secular Franciscans commit themselves to following Jesus through prayer, simplicity, fraternity, and active service in the world.

United in local fraternities, they seek to bring the “good news” into their families, workplaces, and communities, striving to make the Gospel a living reality in all they do. With a history spanning more than 800 years, the OFS continues today as a vibrant lay vocation, calling its members to be a visible sign of Christ’s presence and to help build a more just, peaceful, and Gospel-centered world.
